Katsina State has been officially certified as Open-Defecation-Free (ODF) by the Federal Government, marking it the second state after Jigawa to achieve this milestone in Nigeria's sanitation drive.
The announcement came during the 6th anniversary of the Clean Nigeria Campaign and World Toilet Day 2025 event in Abuja, themed "We’ll Always Need the Toilet." Governor Dikko Umaru Radda's administration was represented by Water Resources Commissioner Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa, who received the certification alongside RUWASSA, STOWASSA, SEPA, and SURWASH leaders.
"This is a testament to our communities' commitment and the governor's leadership," Saulawa said, crediting infrastructure investments, behavioral campaigns, and partnerships with UNICEF, World Bank, and others. The effort spans all 34 local governments, reducing diseases and boosting public health.
Federal Minister Engr. Prof. Utsev praised Katsina's progress, urging sustained efforts toward SDG 6 for clean water and sanitation. Development partners pledged continued support to maintain gains.
The event featured a sensitization walk, messages, and a documentary on national WASH advancements, attended by officials, experts, and community groups.
